Surface Area
The earth's suface area is about 510 square kilomitres. on the earth's surface there are many different features, such as lakes, rivers, mountains, valleys, volcanoes etc.
Volcanoes
"A volcano is a mountain that opens downward to a pool of molten rock below the surface of the earth." (Quoted from http://www.weatherwizkids.com/weather-volcano.htm). When an amount of pressure builds up, the molten rock is released through the top of the volcano, this is called an eruption. when an eruption occurs, this causes molten rock to pour out the top of the volcano, it destroys everything in its path, and when the molten rock cools down it becomes a solid rock again. Pompeii is an example of this. In pompeii, the volcano (Mount Vesuvius) erupted in 79 AD. The molten rock came into the city and killed almost everyone in the city. After the eruption, many bodies were discovered that were covered in molten rock, and after is set, the bodies were like rock sculptures. |

Rivers
Rivers are a flow of water, usually fresh water running through the land and running to the ocean. Rivers usually start off as small streams, then gradually expand when there is more water added to it. Ephemeral rivers only contain water when its the wet season or when snow has melted during spring.
